Association for Research in Otolaryngology Midwinter Meeting
Undergraduate student, Will Allen, presenting his research at the Association for Otolaryngology Midwinter Meeting in Orlando, FL. Will performed a secondary analysis on auditory measures collected at Boys Town National Research Hospital. He found that electrical activity in the brain in response to sound was much smaller in veterans compared to non-veterans, despite all other hearing tests coming back “normal”, suggesting neural damage from military noise exposure might go hidden from clinical tests of hearing loss. This could explain why many veterans have difficulty hearing.
